RTMC Astronomy Expo Group Photo

I attended the annual RTMC Astronomy Expo at Camp Oakes near Big Bear Lake, California over the Memorial Day weekend. Friday night was too windy, Saturday was cloudy, and finally Sunday night was clear, but the seeing was bad (the air was unsteady). However, I got caught up in a lot of activity during the day visitng with many astronomers and doing some bargain shopping.  I met a lot of my Mt. Wilson colleagues and also talked with some club officers from other astronomy clubs. Saturday at 1 p.m. the members of the Orange County Astronomers met at the OCA booth for a group photo. I am holding the sign up in front. The photo is the largest group photo the club has ever done, and still only shows about thirty members out of 700.

Today I am scheduled to do an astronomy outreach at Manhattan Beach Middle School, but the weather is looking poor – total cloud cover at sea level. But there is an additional outreach at the same school tomorrow night and the forecast is for clear skies.

Sunday I am going out with the secretary from the Los Angeles Astronomical Society and we are gong to see the Tom Hanks movie “Magnificent Desolation”, and then we are going to go to the Huntington Library to look at the great works of art there.  I will take some photos and post them here.
