Astronomy Day Outreach in Long Beach

After two weeks of cancellations, I was finally able to do an
outreach on Ocean Blvd in Bixby Park, Long Beach California on Astronomy Day. I had fifteen people, and twelve actually got to see Saturn
in the eyepiece. I handed out a dozen Cassini bookmarks, a dozen
Cassini Saturn photos, and a dozen NASA meatball stickers.
The best reaction I got was from a twentysomething lady that gasped
when she saw Saturn in the eyepiece. Another woman jumped out of her
car and yelled “Astronomy Day!” and came up to look. She then left to
go get her friends. Turns out her mother is an amateur astronomer in
Long Beach and she knew all about Astronomy Day.
Unfortunately, by 9:30 the clouds socked me in completely so I
packed it all up after chatting with some local friends.
